PROJECT-BASED LEARNING
An Integrated Science,
Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics (STEM) Approach

This recently published book presents
an original approach to Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and project-based learning (PBL).  I am
a coauthor of chapter four, "Designing Engineering Project-Based Learning".  It was a great pleasure to work with Dr. James R. Morgan and Dr. Luciana R. Barroso, two Civil Engineering professors at Texas A&M, as well as the editors of the book, Dr. Robert M. Capraro and Dr. Scott W. Slough.  Thank you for all your hard work on this book!

Several pictures from Texas A&M's mathematics camp, where I served as a tutor this past summer, are included in the book.  A picture of two of our very own students, Mattea Ingram and Tiffani Castillo, is also included in my chapter.

This book will be used in Texas A&M's College of Education and Human Development graduate classes, and sections will be used in Texas A&M's College of Engineering undergraduate courses as well.

   Resume

I graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1995.  Then, I attended Texas A&M University, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering.  After college, I worked in the business world for Accenture, a consulting company (http://www.accenture.com/home/default.htm), in telecommunications, project management, cost recovery, and process development.  My time at Accenture was priceless.  I learned first hand about different cultures around the world, traveling to Singapore, Australia, Germany, and Chicago.  I worked with people outside of Texas and the US on a daily basis and probably more often than the people from my own office! The teams I worked with taught me the best business practices and methodologies used in industry today.

When the opportunity came along to be on the Planning Team that would help shape Global High, I could not resist.  Therefore, in 2006, I left the business world and entered the exciting world of Education.  When I served on the Planning Team, I also taught Geometry at Waxahachie High School.  My background in engineering, experience in global business, and lifelong passion for teaching all play a role in my position here at Global High, and having a job that combines all of these is a blessing to me.

My husband, Trey, and I were highschool sweethearts.  He is a fireman in Waxahachie and also works in construction on his days off from the station.  We live in Maypearl and have two wonderful boys, Brady and Braxton, that are 8 (twins).  Brady loves to fish, play baseball, and find lizards.  Braxton loves girls, riding his bike, and playing video games.  They are totally opposites!

I am a Christian, love spending time with my family, and my favorite thing to do is travel and experience new things.  I also like photography, sand volleyball, dancing, horseback riding, and finding deals at garage sales!  :-)  A rainy day in bed with my boys watching Disney movies and eating Cheetos would be my ideal day.  (Yes, I have a weakness for Cheetos.)  I am fascinated by the medieval ages, space, the Titanic, and people that choose to have more than 4 kids.  Some people think I have weird taste in movies.  My all time favorites are The Goonies, Toy Story, What Dreams May Come, Clash of the Titans, Star Wars, The Neverending Story, and of course Young Guns.  I do not watch much tv, other than when American Idol is on, and recently, I have enjoyed watching the cowboys play!  (Yes, I am a fair-weather fan - HA!)

My goals are to make a positive difference in my community / world that will outlive me, to have fun and live with no regrets, and to always give 100% at whatever I do.  I want to make a difference in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) even if it is just having a positive influence on one of my students that eventually turns in to a successful engineering career.  I also plan on traveling more, with my list of 'must see places before I die' being Prague, London, Alaska, Disney World, and taking a family vacation to Sydney.  In addition, I look forward to owning horses again (when my boys get a little older).
