TSA REGIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE AT SMU (October 2008)

Global TSA wins Cardboard Boat Contest!

Global High won 1st place in the TSA Armada Cardboard Boat State Competition again this year and second place as well!
At the TSA (Technology Student Association) state conference in Kerrville this past week, approximately 15 boats from across Texas entered the Armada Cardboard Boat Competition.  Every entry was evaluated using the following criteria: Engineering Design, Construction, Documentation, and of course the Team's Performance / Speed in the Race.  Required documentation included merits in addition to computer generated isometric and dimensioned multiview drawings.   All three Global High teams spent many hours preparing for this competition and even tested 6 prototypes and practiced rowing twice this past month in local pools.

Three teams from Global High competed in the competition, with each team consisting of three members.  Two members from each team had to row across a pool in their boat constructed of only limited cardboard and duct tape.  The first place team included Caylie Curry, Will Porter, and Rogelio Sierra.  The second place team included Ashlee Mullenix, Connor Denney, and Keith Hoops.

The third team from Global High, Caitlyn Phillips, Summer King, and Ben Rivera, also came home with an award! They won the "Turtle Award" for being the slowest team to successfully complete the race.  Completing the race was truly an accomplishment within itself because about half of the entries sunk in the unheated freezing cold water before reaching the finishing line.

In total, 24 students from Global High and 12 students from WHS attended this three day conference at the Texas Lions Camp, which focused on leadership skills.
